Turbulent yet victorious 17th century became an inspiration for one of the most renowned Polish novel – The Trilogy by Henryk Sienkiewicz. Written and published at the end of 19th century, the Trilogy consists of three parts: With Fire and Sword (Ogniem i mieczem, 1884), The Deluge (Potop, 1886) and Fire in the Steppe (Pan Wołodyjowski, 1886). Among Poles, the Trilogy became the most popular book ever. The three parts have been also adapted to the screen by the movie director Jerzy Hoffman, The Deluge (1974) has been nominated to the Oscar award.
