Sarmatian costume worn by Polish noblemen in the era of Baroque.
Very Oriental in the look, the costume included kontusz (a long robe reaching to below the knees, with decorative buttons and long, loose sleeves on hot days worn untied, thrown on the back), a decorative kontusz sash (3- to 4.5-meter-long strip of fabric, frequently silk, covered with varied designs), żupan (a garment typically worn beneath a kontusz, with long sleeves and a row of buttons) and delia (a coat made of wool, cotton or velvet, finished with fur with short, loose, unsewn sleeves and metal buttons).
